Like all projects which are the fruit of tested synergy and harmony, THE OSCILLATORS was born with unusual and beautiful speed from an idea of Marta Raviglia and Manuel Attanasio, and immediately embraced by Claudio Morandini, with whom the two musicians had already collaborated in 2010, when he wrote the liner notes of the vocal project ‘Morfeo’ ( Monk Records, 2010). GLI OSCILLANTI is a show (an opera, actually, complete with libretto), that uses acting, singing, and dance, as well as written and improvised music, to explore such concepts as vascillation, hesitancy, the attraction to the void, the loss of equilibrium and the search for a new equilibrium, however precarious: concepts that do not demand a plot, with all its conventions, but rather streams of words surrounding situations. Words, therefore. Lines of dialogue between two characters, a HE and a SHE, who speak (sing) as soloists, but who are sometimes enhanced by two sections of a choir. Solo and choir scenes mixing with each other following a theme whose pattern is more musical than narrative or dramatic, scenes that, by swinging, simultaneously declare themselves and retreat.  It was not difficult to agree on this non-story of fluctuations, vertigoes, and pitchings, and to let the words and notes meet and find a harmony almost on their own. After all, isn’t it perhaps in this unstable equilibrium that we find the artistic search which swings between control and chance, structure and drift? And, if we are willing to generalize dizzily, isn’t this continuous fluctuation between will and abandonment the way of human life?

Come tutti i progetti frutto di affiatamento e di sintonie già sperimentate, GLI OSCILLANTI è nato con insolita, bella velocità, da un’idea di Marta Raviglia e Manuel Attanasio, subito accolta da Claudio Morandini, che con i due musicisti aveva già collaborato nel 2010 scrivendo le liner notes per il CD del progetto vocale ‘Morfeo’ (Monk Records, 2010). GLI OSCILLANTI è uno spettacolo (un’opera, anzi, con tanto di libretto) che, attraverso recitazione, canto e danza, musica scritta e improvvisazione, lavora attorno a motivi come appunto l’oscillazione, l’esitazione, l’attrazione per il vuoto, la perdita d’equilibrio e la ricerca di un nuovo equilibrio, sia pure precario: tutti motivi che hanno richiesto non un intreccio, con tutte le convenzioni del caso, ma piuttosto flussi di parole attorno a situazioni. Parole, dunque: battute di dialogo, tra due personaggi, un LUI e una LEI, che parlano (cantano) come solisti ma a volte sono amplificati dalla polifonia di due sezioni di coro; e scene solistiche e d’assieme che si alternano obbedendo a un tipo di sviluppo tematico di natura più musicale che narrativo o drammatico, e che, oscillando, si dichiarano e allo stesso tempo si smentiscono. Non è stato difficile trovarsi d’accordo su questa non-storia di fluttuazioni, vertigini, beccheggi e lasciare che parole e note si incontrassero e trovassero un’intesa quasi per conto loro. In fondo, non sta forse in questo instabile equilibrio il senso della ricerca artistica, che appunto ondeggia tra controllo e caso, tra struttura e deriva? E, se vogliamo generalizzare vertiginosamente, non sta forse in questo fluttuare continuo tra volontà e abbandono il percorso di ogni vita umana?
